@mk copy the original file from remote machine into gedit or kate on the local machine. Save it as <remote-machine><filename><iso-date>.txt on your local machine. Make your edits there first. Use that as a guide when updating file on remote machine, where it counts.

@mk and... phpMyAdmin set up, I can login and I see no more grumbles. Now to create a database and user for WP and then I can start writing, I hope!
