     Thank you for writing this up. And also a big thanks that you linked the answer of Mark. As he explains, most people in Free Software communities simply have too little time to answer — and on IRC silence typically just means no one is reading the chat at that moment.

     Most people having no time also means that if there are some aggressive people with lots of time, these can easily shape the first contact of most newcomers. And this can be a big problem if you care about the software but you have no power to stop that or time to maintain a fork
