   there was a "table" or something similar that listed my #StatusNet contacts inside my MySQL database.

     @lg yes, tables are a basic unit of data storage in a database; essentially a "table" stores data of a particular class (after which the table is usually named); so a table called "user" would likely store data about users, etc.
