let's not tell @lg@micro.fragdev.com (or he'll rant about #SN and its #dataPortability ;-))
- lg wiederholte dies.
-
@erkanyilmaz isn't it safe to assume that we no longer can expect #dataportability from #gnusocial / #statusnet ? (unless you run your own instance, of course)
-
@erkanyilmaz and present #gnusocial developers have been openly promoting those locked in sites.
-
@lg I certainly expect it! and I think solutions will come, whether or not in the context of SN/Gs
-
@mk I know next to nothing about code. But I assume, as the code (amount of code) grows bigger and #gnusocial gets more and more complicated, the ability to fix the present import/export system gets difficult. (Please correct me if I am wrong) If this is true, they will have to implement some other data migration method...
-
@lg yes indeed - I saw a lecture which (amongst other things) pointed out that social software so far tries to do the whole 'stack' from data storage to user interface. That was an eye opener for me - maybe trying to 'do it all' is not such a good idea - better have separate components that can be tied together... and choose your own preferred component for data storage. it's not ready yet, but I think this approach holds promise
-
@lg anyway, don't give up the dream!

started a section about SN's (non-working) data #portability: http://federation.skilledtests.com/Statusnet_problems.html#data_portability

@erkanyilmaz Great! :)
