   you could set up a test instance (same version of mysql, statusnet, etc.)& restore /var/lib/mysql there. Maybe thats not all to restore a db

     @finn thx,so it works with the mysqldump default options.I'd expect it works correctly regardless of the instance running meanwhile,right?

     @finn I installed your script on a test SN instance. Works like a charm :-) Only "Warning: Skipping the data of table mysql.event"
