@zoowar Hey thanks! This made my day :)
-
@lohang are you planning our podcast yet? :p
-
YES! :D Let us try to do the podcast when you are in the central parts of the country, Kandy, Kegalle etc. Or when you are passing Colombo.
-
@lohang I'm not getting to Colombo at all - on arrival we go to (nearer) Negombe, at the end we go from Hikkaduwa to the airport.
-
okay but give priority to travelling and cultural surfaces etc since you are there for a short visit. Pinnawala elephant place is worth visiting. but staying in Kandy is better if you got to choose between the two
-
@lohang but if Kegalle is worth a visit, maybe I can hitch a hike on the excursion bus and get off where the road goes to the elephant place, and from there somehow make it to Kegalle? Then spend morning there, and back in Kandy for afternoon & evening (+ music & dance show)? Does that sound feasible?
-
Ah, I think that will be unnecessarily tiresome. (You’ll spend nearly 4 hours in crowded buses) Besides there is nothing much to see in Kegalle town. You’ll have to travel off Kegalle and that will be time consuming. And the Elaphant place is worth visiting by mid day because it gets interesting when elephants go to the river and afterwards. Best idea is to stay in and around Kandy (visit some places in and around Kandy such as Hanthana, Peradeniya Gardens, Gadoladeniya, Embekke, Temple of the sacred tooth, etc or others you have already marked) So you can get back quickly for the dance show later the same day.
-
when you are in and around Pinnawala and Kegalle, public transportation is not good. always crowded and time consuming.
-
If you go to Pinnawala, best time is to be there around 10 am go you can see them taking the elephants to the river. 10 – 2 pm is the most interesting time by the river. See http://mini.alochana.net/url/850
-
@lohang oh, okay - I'll spend the time i and around Kandy then. So could you meet me there?
-
Oh Yala is (arguably) the best. Vilpattu, Sinharaja etc are there of course. But even when compared to those Yala is very convenient and accessible. If there’s a second trip, it is a must visit place :) Sure I will be able to meet you in Kandy.
-
@lohang oh! I am just reading: "The park is closed every year from 1 Spetember to 16 October when animals move elsewhere in search of water." - but our program says we'll go there :-/ odd. well, we'll see. I am looking forward to meeting you! :)
-
@mk Oh I thought it was always open unless there’s some disaster i.e war, Tsunami or floods etc. I can check and let you know. Btw I didn’t know you are heading that way. Apparently I have misread the travel map you showed me the other day :-/
-
@lohang my itinerary says nothing about it being closed... we'll, we'll see - I am always able to find something to photography ;)
-
@lohang you're right the map shows only Wirawila in the South, but apparently that would be our base from where to go to Yala NP.
-
@mk Oh I see. Cool :)
