http://qttr.at/6za "The Best Critique of Alternative Medicine Ever" !skeptics
-
How comes that folks often confuse “using alternative medicine” with “rejecting school medicine”? Those two are independent.
-
@drak It's possible to see it like you, okay. I'm not a missionary. I like debates.
-
@kuro: I am one of those people on their third life, by the way: If there were no vaccines, I’d already have died twice. For me, alternative medicine is useful when either school medicine doesn’t work or when the treatment from school medicine would have too bad side effects. And for me the real danger does not lie in alternative medicine, but in giving foodstock masses of vaccines, which leads to more and more resistances, so that we lose the vaccines as school medicine treatment on the long run.
-
drak: "I don't understand what a vaccine is" /cc @kuro
-
@drak The two do not have to be mutually exclusive so long as logic is utilized. Except where homeopathy is concerned. Total crock!
-
@hotmamahikers @drak Depends on how you define "alternative", I suppose. Add to that list chiropractors, acupuncturists, and TCM.
-
@johnnynull Yes. Faith and mysticism make things go awry. Drugs don't have to be the first choice, diet/lifestyle change is alternative too.
-
@hotmamahikers @drak @johnnynull @kuro in theory the real alternative one is what we call allopathic medicine the others are the traditional
-
@ghostdancer True. I think modern medicine would benefit from more holistic practices, as in treating the body as a whole, not as symptoms.
drak gefällt das. -
@ghostdancer Ah, you mean medicine that WORKS. Gotcha. /cc @hotmamahikers @drak @kuro
-
@hotmamahikers true, but money and time (that means money also) are biggest problems for medicine right now
-
@johnnynull ;-) that one yes
-
except where it works… do you care how it works, if there are no side effects? What if it’s placebo? It still works for many people.
-
argl, just dict.cc’ed the word. It was a mistranslation ☹. The right word would have been antibiotic… thanks for calling me out on it!
-
@drak You're welcome. And that truly is a big issue, no question. Why nothing is being done about this is maddening.
-
@kuro: As @johnnynull alerted me, I had suffered a mistranslation. Please replace “vaccine” by “antibiotic” in http://sn.1w6.org/notice/10113
-
@johnnynull you know what is maddening? Anti-vaxers. Get you kids vaccinated folks! Measles and Mumps are on the rise. I don't care how anti-corporate you are, you do not get to be anti-science! (I use the word "you" figuratively not literally)
