@r7 hmm - when I try to run 'updatedb' from inside /volume0/usr/builtin/bin I get: "updatedb: can not open a temporary file for `/usr/builtin/var/mlocate/mlocate.db'"
-
@mk /volume0/usr/builtin/var exists, but there is no 'mlocate' directory within that
-
@mk yay! I created the 'missing' directory '/usr/builtin/var/mlocate' (where the database should go), then after more grumbles also created the *group* 'mlocate' and finally ran 'updatedb' once more which now actually managed to crea…
-
@r7 rebooted, and the database is still there, 'locate' still works. So, 'system' data in /volume0 is persistent (while data outside of /volume0 and /volume1 is OS loaded from flash memory and "refreshed" upon boot).
-
@mk At least you have ssh access (unlike some crappy^W Seagate NASses). What NAS model is it?
-
@mcscx Without SSH access I would never have bought it! I have the ASUSTOR AS-604T. looking at /etc/rsyslog.conf gave me an extra clue that its OS is based on RedHat ('/var/log/cron' seems to be Fedora/RedHat 'flavor' of cron logging - if it takes place at all, of course)
-
@mcscx I can understand why they 'freeze' the OS in Flash memory (avoid the headaches of users making the machine inoperable!) but it does make it hard to configure some things that (IMO) should be configurable
