phew... took me an hour or so to figure out why the Link Checker plugin for WP I installed came up with a 403 error for an embedded image... turns out it is using a somewhat 'fake' Referrer when doing its checks, which fell just one final / short of the hot linking detection I crafted. I removed the final / after the domain from my hotlink rule and now there are no more 'broken' links! #hacking #wordpress
