I started with common lisp, but began using lisp extensively only after I started using emacs. Later, due to the influence of guix and other projects, I gave up on common lisp and moved to guile. I liked the way the guile community was more conscious of software freedom and were generally pro-copyleft.
I switched editors from vim to emacs because of elisp. Elisp is sometimes a bit hacky, but incredibly useful in customizing emacs to make oneself enjoy computing more. My computer worldview has not been the same since I started using lisp and emacs.
