That this is (except for #conversations) not being done, leads to #xmpp being removed from recommendations as a secure communication standard.

Yes, this is the reason you need to implement it as default, otherwise you're not developing a secure IM. One party just doing one wrong click, should not turn an IM into a leaking nightmare.
