@mk oh interesting: the NAS Web UI is now fully functional - it starts with a nice little intro - and there's an activity monitor with a "Process" tab which tells me what's loaded - and that it's apparently using lighttpd as a web server, samba (smbd) is also loaded, as well as sshd and nginx. a load of other stuff, too - most of it 'sleeping' but some raid-related processes are active.
