@drak there are still things I don't understand ;-) what I also don't understand is applications* having a direct dependency on systemd. But I'm not really going to dive in in an effort to understand all this in detail - I've read enough to know what it's for and I'm interested to see how Debian is migrating to use systemd. As long as they make it work, I guess I'm OK with it. And yes, I *accept* that running testing (Jessie) can result in having an instable situation at some point in time; for me the advantages outweigh the occasional problem - mostly it's smooth. :) *(as opposed to services)
