My - let's say - problem is, that I prefer to have only 1 OS (call me lazy) for private use and as server. Private I prefer Gentoo, which is not offered at the planned server location. The point is, Debian is known as solid server OS but if I start with FreeBSD I will maybe end up also with FreeBSD for private use. With comming Debian versions I also will not be happy and FreeBSD is something like set it up and forget it (ok, there is work behind). So, it is more a question of Linux and BSD or maybe only one of booth. Life is complicated ...
