I've talked plenty about the precedent of these cases. But in this instance---WhatsApp---we can circumvent court orders such as these by using _distributed_ systems. If there's no central authority for your communications, and end-to-end #encryption is used, then the government can't compel a company to aid in wiretapping. Unless that software were #nonfree---like WhatsApp; then you'd never know if they added a backdoor.
