They should have told the truth that if you want #control, #freedom and #dataportability , learn how to install your own instance. On public sites you are (still) locked in with your data. You cannot export and move to a new instance without abandoning your data, contacts and everything! This is pretty similar to twitter or Facebook! #FSF should not endorse such platforms. We can't expect users to know #all existing groups (though there's a list) besides that we also let them their #freedom to make 1 or more parallel groups. That the current #statusnet software may be perceived as not supporting all of them (though there's a plugin for that) is for me not so a strong argument.
