@erkanyilmaz I too will write. You are asking them to mention more instances. But my point is different. I don't think #FSF should endorse ANY public site that doesn't support data portability (This means all of the sites unfortunately). It is pointless to ask users to ditch Twitter / Facebook and start using a similar site that keep their data locked in.

@zoowar that's true. But (if I connect this conversation to another ongoing discussion) I am surprised to see #FSF recommending these locked-in sites. [ see https://www.fsf.org/twitter ] I don't expect #FSF to recommend users to depend on the generosity of some public website admin. #FSF should be uncompromising when it comes to freedom; they are there to do that for every one of us. They should have pressed the developers to implement these features that ensure freedom [see also http://micro.fragdev.com/conversation/583234#notice-935772 ]

@lnxw37 @bobjonkman they shouldn't have mentioned or recommended ANY public instance. They should have told the truth that if you want #control, #freedom and #dataportability , learn how to install your own instance. On public sites you are (still) locked in with your data. You cannot export and move to a new instance without abandoning your data, contacts and everything! This is pretty similar to twitter or Facebook! #FSF should not endorse such platforms. If the #FSF did what you say they did, it is very misleading! See here for more about the problem http://oracle.skilledtests.com/notice/385930
