@hosh It's likely to do with the base URL for your instance. !StatusNet (and maybe !GNUsocial too) can't deal with any trailing path. If your instance's base URL is http://unblog.in/index.php/ then what is your OStatus address? @hosh@unblog.in/…

I use #Pidgin for #IRC, !XMPP, and use the microblog-purple plugin for the !Fediverse (OStatus microblogs). I used to get Twitter on Pidgin too, but microblog-purple hasn't been updated for Twitter API 1.1 https://code.google.com/p/microblog-pu…

Protecting a nick is optional in #IRC. I can join a channel with any arbitrary nick, and there are no authentication credentials stored on their server (unless I protect the nick)
