oh, poking around, I find a little file in the tmp folder on the #NAS called badblock.conf - it has a report of the state (errors, bad blocks etc.) of each of the four disks (identified by logical number and serial#). ZERO errors and bad blocks on all four. good!

too late now to start changing SSH config, but I did write up my fix for the user IDs. On day I'll dump all of these documents in a wiki. or something. but it helps writing things down anyway: you'll remember more later about how to fix problems. #NAS #networking
