users + more important non-lazy #statusnet admins can set/change the default #shortener for such a case. I'm worrying more about the #old dents :-( When #Evan (might) sell it it'll be unclear what the new #owner will do. And no one tell me that it might not happen, the millions of old dents on identi.ca are not accessible right now, since months cc @drak

90% of my #StatusNet problems are now solved. What on earth is going on?
-
messing around with #StatusNet installations. my masochist tendencies are back I guess.
-
@erkanyilmaz but then, #statusnet is the only thing that doesn’t run well here. I will have to think about convenience too. Cannot afford two shared hosting plans.
-
Update from the webhost (about #statusnet daemons):
“I talked with our senior server managers and could find that pcntl is not made available in our shared servers due to the large number of PHP processes it may fork. You would need at least a VPS to use this functionality.”

Well friendica surely worked out of the box. It cannot federate with #StatusNet, yes, but that is a known fact: http://mini.alochana.net/url/846

A list of things that don’t work on my #StatusNet instance:
(1) Posting notices- I have to refresh the page to avoid the error. (2) Clients – they don’t work at all (3) Image uploading/posting (4) Twitter bridge – I cannot ask tweeps to install this half baked shit so I must send my notices across the bridge (5) Exporting from GUI doesn’t work (6) Restoring from backups work, sometimes. You have to know how to edit code in a text editor and how to use SSH. #StatusNetRants -
and I cannot use that weird posting method when I am on mobile. So I have stopped using #StatusNet when I’m travelling.
-
And people still use this shit due to political reasons. those who created #StatusNet abused that political will by spreading misinformation that this is ready to provide an alternative to twitter and other proprietary, centralized networks. That was bullshit. This is experimental software. They should have said the fucking truth.

I have this masochist tendency that makes me go back to #statusnet whenever I regain my energy.

I will try to make a suggestion. Another #learning process on how to use #gitorious :) #statusnet is obviously and understandably not ready for most shared hosts. A warning has to be there, that this is experimental software. And users who are not comfortable with the command line should be advised to find a public site run by someone else. And get your own server (VPS or above) to gain full control. #justsaying #thinkingaloud

and if this is so vital for a #sn site to run smoothly it has to be enabled by default. and it has to be mentioned properly in the official installation guide. at the moment, not everybody can run these scripts. this seems to be a limitation of #statusnet and a warning needs to be included in the README or whatever so people will know what they are getting into.

Any useful information in #statusnet logs?
