@cyberkiller Yes, we lost many users in the #bifurcation, but we gained the knowledge that we *must* spread out and not all ride on the same instance. More decentralized #federation is what we need. More, more, more.

@roland @mmn That's what I suspected. Something from when #Google tacitly assisted #StatusNet by providing partial support for #OStatus #federation from many of their different services. (And before most of us were aware of the tracking implications of geolocation.)

@daw As of now, Pump speaks a different protocol than most others (I think MediaGoblin partly implements Pump's #federation). But there is a W3C activity focused on helping most federated #socnets to communicate.

@deavmi OIC. #Wikipedia does not tell whether #mxit uses/used !XMPP. Without #federation, all smaller and regionalized services are likely to collapse as the big guys expand into their areas. (Not saying Mxit didn't federate; I never heard of them before, so I have no idea.)

We were almost 10 I think ;) But this was in parallell with the #ShareableLab event, so we intermixed with those people quite a lot. And in the non-techie sessions they were introduced to why !fs and #federation is important for any sort of organising which has to last over time.

@deavmi As I understand their new purpose, #Hubzilla is a CMS for building community-oriented sites with identity management (e.g., single sign-on), privacy features, file-storage, #federation built into it. It replaces !RedMatrix.

... the above sounds more negative than I meant it. What I meant is that I hope that PHP-based wikis implement full #federated interop with #SFW, so people who cannot host Node-based apps can still host wiki instances for GS. #PHP #Node.js #federation

@mcscx I suspect @nanook's #federation issue is due to the instance being in a subdirectory. I seem to recall seeing advice not to set it up that way.
