currently: the majority of the reports (1) (2) (3) as well as bug reports, e.g. (4) is only one, indicate #statusnet / #gnusocial fails with #dataportability. The only system I know supporting and working successfully is !friendica. #pump.io doesn't offer this (as well as deleting one's account). @erkanyilmaz on quick inspection (chromium automatically wants to download it) it does seem to be a proper XML document, so maybe it just isn't served with the correct MIME type; an '.xml' extension might also help! #foaf #statusnet
-
@erkanyilmaz and that also reminded me of FOAF - SN on oracle does still produce a FOAF link in the meta tags, but it doesn't seem to create a browsable network (as it used to do on identi.ca) :( #statusnet #foaf
-
Will be taking a dent-break until the full-day power outages are over. It's almost impossible to use #StatusNet from mobile.
-
@zoowar Do you mean #dataportability in #StatusNet? See this discussion http://oracle.skilledtests.com/conversation/231575#notice-385930 and this bug that never got resolved http://status.net/open-source/issues/803

@quix0r and I don't like being locked in an instance managed by someone else. I (and every identicat) learned a lesson the hard way after spending all the years on Evan's playground (identi.ca) until he decided to close shop and ask us to leave without giving our data back. You still cannot export and import data without having access to the DB. Fix that life-long bug and introduce #dataportability to #StatusNet if you can :) @mk
-
@quix0r That dent has nothing to do with #StatusNet bugs. It was utter an catastrophe when my hosting provider banned my account while I was traveling. Reason = I (my StatusNet instance) was using too much of CPU. I didn't have internet access to fix or take down the effing #StatusNet instance so they can bring my account back (and my other sites + email and everything else will start working) That was chaos, catastrophe and beyond. In that particular dent I was telling @mk that I could not find time to edit our podcast because of that #catastrophe .

@quix0r introduce #DataPortability to #StatusNet public sites, and I will be happy. Currently you are locked-in just like on Twitter and FB. Twitter and FB now provide backups that actually work. :) @windigo
-
@mcnalu I have taken down my own #StatusNet instance. This is a temporary home. Still hoping to bring it back on my own server because public sites don't allow you to backup, control and migrate data. #dataportability #freedom
-
@erkanyilmaz so, users on public #StatusNet sites never had #dataportability ? shocking!
-
@erkanyilmaz try this with any random #StatusNet site, I bet the result will be similar. You can't migrate data from this interface. You need to have access to the database and have your own instance :( @pztrn
-
@zoowar No, I attempted to export data from this account ( http://micro.fragdev.com/lg ) and migrate to that account ( https://loadaverage.org/lohang ) using the "backup" and "restore" options in #StatusNet settings. It doesn't work. It MUST work if we are to talk about true freedom and data portability. If not we (those who develop SN ) must openly state that those who want to have control over their data should run their own instance :)
-
My rants about #StatusNet are no longer constructive. But I am still using it, unlike those who abandoned it entirely.
-
positive thing about Twitter is you can actually download and view your entire archive. With #StatusNet you must have your own instance to have the so-called freedom.
-
running #StatusNet is no longer a pleasant experience. I've been trying to bring my site back. But doing it on my own server is not really a good idea for someone like me. Being on #fragdev is ok. But when I pass a certain number of dents I cannot export my dents and it will end up just like twitter and Evan's identica.
