have you ever tried using it? it never worked. #StatusNet abandoned this feature by secretly removing it from their to-do list. And the bug report is there unattended since 2008. What makes you think it will be fixed?

I've ran my own instance for several months and still run my own #friendica . So I know how shitty self-hosting #StatusNet can get. Can't help comparing it with others. When compared #sn looks like a failure :)

wrong comparison. We are talking about GNU Social here. They failed as a stand-alone project. Then went on to combine with #StatusNet which openly abandoned freedom. Now GNU Social openly advocate these locked-in sites. Just check their website. And compare it with a project that claim to address similar freedom related issues (Wordpress or Friendica) You can either run your own instance, or temporarily find shelter elsewhere. In both case you own your data.

Since #StatusNet doesn't provide data portability I am yet to complete migrating my contacts to #fragdev . Adding them one by one, and #RSI makes things difficult.

currently: the majority of the reports (1) (2) (3) as well as bug reports, e.g. (4) is only one, indicate #statusnet / #gnusocial fails with #dataportability. The only system I know supporting and working successfully is !friendica. #pump.io doesn't offer this (as well as deleting one's account).
